In der Schweiz boomt die Leichtathletik bei den Kindern, die allerdings immer jünger werden. Was aber nicht wirklich passiert ist die Identifikation mit den Vorbildern. Man geht nicht Leichtathletik schauen oder Meetings am Fernsehen (die ja in der Schweiz noch übertragen werden), oder dann muss es schon Weltklasse Zürich sein.
Ich glaube allerdings nicht, dass Doping hier eine wesentliche Rolle spielt. Und wenn, muss man sich schon fragen, warum eigentlich die Sportarten schlecht wegkommen, die sich wenigstens um Aufklärung bemühen (im Gegensatz etwa zum Fussball).
Allerdings ist es schon so, dass ausser ein paar wenigen Superstars, bevorzugt aus dem Sprint, der Allgemeinheit kaum ein Name geläufig ist. Da würde es sicher helfen, wenn jede Woche die gleichen Athleten gegeneinander antreten (und sich nicht ständig aus dem Weg gehen!), wie das in Weltcups in Wintersportarten oder im Motorsport üblich ist.
Ein weiteres Problem sind die viele Disziplinen, die unterschiedlich präsentiert werden und entsprechend auch unterschiedlich interessieren. Ich bin überzeugt, dass man das Interesse für z.B. technische Disziplinen nur wecken kann, wenn man beim Fernsehen auch wirklich mal drauf bleibt. Und wenigstens den Spannungsbogen und die wichtigsten Finalversuche zeigt. Und natürlich hilft es, wenn auch "einheimische" mit dabei sind, mit denen man sich identifizieren kann.
