Habe da in der Historie schon zu viele erlebt. Bisweilen erkennen dies Athleten auch selbst.
Ich kann Gabius aber auch etwas verstehen. Er hatte trotz einiger
Probleme eine 2:08 durchgeknauscht. Da ist irgendwo im Kopf....ohne die Probleme.. 2:07, vielleicht sogar beschwerdefrei eine hohe 2:06 wären drin gewesen.
Ja, das war auch die Einschätzung von Arne selbst. Vor seinem DR im Marathon hatte ich die Gelegenheit, ziemlich ausführlich mit ihm zu sprechen. Meine Einschätzung ist, dass Gabius sehr ausführlich und klug reflektiert, und zwar nicht nur sein Training und seine Laufkarrriere sondern er beobachtet die ganze Szene sehr genau und hat wirklich einen guten Durchblick.
In den Intervieveröffentlichungen kommnt das manchmal nicht ganz so rüber, aber da werden eben auch mal 1 oder 2 Stunden Gespräch auf 10 oder 20 prägnante Sätze gekürzt.
D. h. Gabius kann sich ziemlich gut einschätzen, hat aber den Mut, optimistisch zu sein und an der Kante von dem lang zu rennen, was gerade so möglich sein wird, wenn alles sehr gut klappt. Man könnte das auch so beschreiben, dass er etwas von der "Go big or go home"-Mentalität vieler kenianischer Läufer übernommen hat, oder: Er hat eben den Mut zum Risiko, und das beinhaltet die Möglichkeit des Scheiterns.
Nun ist es oft so, dass unsere Helden in den Himmel gelobt werden wenn der Mut zum Risiko sich lohnt hat und erfolgreich ist und in den Boden geschrieben, falls es mal nicht klappt. Dabei sind das eben zwei Seiten dersleben Medaille und wer nicht viel wagt kann auch nicht viel gewinnen.
Das Verhältnis von Arne zum DLV war ja schon länger nicht ganz ungetrübt. Da haben auch die Heings ihren Anteil dran. Logisch wäre ja z. B. eigentlich gewesen, spätestens nach seinem Marathonrekord mal an ihn ranzutreten und sich für sein Training zu interessieren. Das ist aber meines Wissens nicht passiert. Da muss man dann vielleicht doch mal fragen, was macht eigentlich ein Bundestrainer in der dt. LA?
Was ich aus dem Gespräch mit Arne weiß: Er hat seit dem Wechsel auf die Straße einfach wieder sehr viel Spaß an seinem Sport und will gerade deshalb so lange wie möglich laufen. Natürlich ist er auch klug und geschäftstüchtig genug und wird wissen, wann er aufhören sollte. Wenn es für ihn sinnvoll ist und er sich qualifizieren kann, wird er aber bis Tokio weitermachen.
