Ich konnte förmlich spüren, wie groß die Anspannung gewesen sein muß:
2012 war er der aufstrebende Star, der Gold gewinnen kann.
2016 war er dagegen der Star, der Gold gewinnen muß; alles andere wäre eine "Blamage" gewesen.
Wie oft mag er sich während der Quadrizeps Blessur im Frühjahr gefragt haben: wie lange kann ich ruhen ohne Gold in Rio zu gefährden?
In Rio dann: nur 10,46 über 100m, zu lange pausiert?
Nach Diskus ist das Ziel dennoch zum Greifen nahe und dann zaudernd, nachdenkend beim Stabbhoch Anlauf, wie ein Tennisspieler mit Angst vorm Gewinnen beim Matchball ... . Na ging ja noch mal gut, aber die Anspannung war riesig!
Glückwunsch Ashton Eaton, alles geschafft, es gibt kaum noch mehr zu gewinnen. Wohlüberlegt und gutes timing, wie immer!
Schade für mich als Statistikfan: seit Jahren führe ich detailliert Statistik über die kumulierten persönlichen Bestleistungen der Besten (quasi eine Lebenszeitzehnkampf) und bin derzeit bei Platz 130 aller Zeiten angelangt.
Zu Platz 1 fehlen Eaton noch ein paar Pünktchen, wie schön wäre es wenn er noch mal einen Wettkampf bestritten hätte und den Diskus (dem Vernehmen nach im Training schon nahe 50) einfach mal ohne Zehnkampfwettkampfdruck auf 48,50 geworfen hätte.
Nun bleibt er leider knapp hinter Dan O'Brian hängen
