Ich wüsste aktuell nur eine in diesem Zusammenhang: Die Aufwertung der Hallen-WM, so dass alle Stars mitgemacht hätten. Was natürlich auch eine Vergrösserung der Felder bedeutet hätte sowie eine Verlängerung des Events.
Das Hauptproblem ist, die Leichtathletik verschwindet immer mehr hinter Paywalls. Da ist es egal, was die IAAF versucht, man gewinnt keine neuen Fans, wenn diese erstmal zahlen müssten, um den Sport überhaupt zu empfangen. In den USA muß man für die DL 75$ hinlegen, dafür bekommt man immerhin eine Luxusübertragung mit separaten Streams für jede Disziplin. In Deutschland läuft die DL auf Eurosport 2, bei meinem Provider Vodafone müßte ich dafür erstmal 20 Euro zahlen für zwei Premium-Pakete, ich krieg dann also ca. 100 Sender dazu, die mich nicht interessieren, nur um Eurosport 2 zu empfangen. Bis Anfang 2017 bekam ich dann aber nichtmal Eurosport 2 in HD, dafür hätte ich Sky buchen müssen. Wenn ich damals also Sky gebucht hätte, um die Leichtathletik in HD zu sehen, hätte ich immer noch nicht alle DL-Meetings sehen können, denn einige wurden gar nicht live gezeigt. Buche ich also den Eurosport-Player, endlich alle Meetings in HD? Denkste, Zürich wurde letztes Jahr trotz Programmankündigung nirgends in Deutschland übertragen.
Niemand, der sich periphär für Leichtathletik interessiert und mal reinschnuppern will, tut sich diesen Sumpf an. Wie also will man damit neue Fans gewinnen? Dazu dann Geoblocking ohne Ende und wenn man dann dochmal ne Übertragung hat, ist man ahnungslosen Regisseuren ausgeliefert. Da darf ich dann "begeistert" zuschauen, wie fünf Kenianer um den 1500m Sieg spurten, während Johannes Vetter wirft oder Raphael Holzdeppe springt.
Das erste, was die IAAF ändern/modernisieren müßte, wären die Übertragungen. Deutsche Fans wollen vorrangig ihre Athleten sehen, genauso ist es in allen anderen Ländern. Es braucht Übertragungen mit parallelen Streams, beim Tennis ist das seit Jahren üblich. Bei den Grandslams kann ich JEDES Spiel auf den 18-20 Courts sehen, in der Leichtathletik schafft es die IAAF nichtmal, zwei Streams gleichzeitig anzubieten. Die Übertragungen müssten außerdem problemlos zu empfangen sein, kein Geoblocking und kostenlos. Die Leichtathletik ist außer bei Olympischen Spielen kein Premium-Produkt, da sind Paywalls absolut kontraproduktiv. Das würde sicher erstmal viel Geld kosten, aber ohne Investition wird man keine neuen Fans anziehen. Aber genau da scheint mir die IAAF absolut ignorant zu sein, man ist nicht bereit zu investieren, stattdessen versucht man, die Leichtathletik in einen Zirkus zu verwandeln.
