Nachdem Schippers im Olympiajahr keine so rasante Entwicklung hingelegt hatte wie noch 2015, gab es anscheinend ein Gespräch zwischen ihr und Bennema, nach dem sie sich entschied, künftig unter Reider zu trainieren, um eine optimale Sprint-Ausbildung zu genießen. Dies geschah (laut der niederländischen Quellen) in gegenseitigem Einverständnis und mit dem Ziel, Schippers als eine der besten Sprinterinnen der Welt zu etablieren. Nach dem großen Erfolg 2015 war sie mit ihrem Abschneiden bei Olympia nicht so zufrieden und wollte daher den Wechsel. Nur dass sie weder 2017 noch in dieser Hallensaison auch nur annähernd an die Zeiten herangekommen ist, die sie unter Bennema lief. Nadine Visser dagegen, die nach wie vor bei Bennema trainiert, hat eine tolle Entwicklung im Mehrkampf und vor allem im Hürdensprint hingelegt.
Die Athletinnen suchen eben die Fehler fast nie bei sich selbst, sondern immer beim Trainer. Zudem geht keine Entwicklung immer kontinuierlich. Es wird immer wieder auch Leute im Umfeld geben, die falsch raten. Es war Schippers Entscheidung, an der ich an Bennemas Stelle auch nie mehr rütteln würde. Man muss sich als Trainer auch von Topathletinnen lossagen können, wenn die "Chemie vergiftet" ist, auch wenn´s manchmal wehtut.
Sabine Braun sieht heute die Sachen auch anders. Nachdem ich ihr mal lange nach ihrer Karriere Einblick in meine Unterlagen gewährt habe, sagte sie mal zu mir, dass sie meinen Einsatz damals in den Dimensionen nicht habe einschätzen können. An unserer Trennung haben damals so einige mitgeholfen, die bis heute sehr "freundlich" zu mir sind, aber nicht wissen, dass ich entsprechende Informationen habe. Ich habe damals übrigens hervorragende Lebenshilfen durch einen strategischen Topmann erhalten, die bis heute wirken. Ich würde nie mehr mein Herz an Athleten verlieren und immer mehr Betrachterin sein, als mittendrin betriebsblind zu agieren. Diese Begebenheit hat mich gelehrt, dass es auch berechtigte Gebiete neben dem Sport gibt, die ein Leben lebenswert und schön machen. Ich liebe den Leistungssport nach wie vor sehr. Ich kann aber heute auch sehr gut ohne ihn leben. Entscheidend ist, dass man Fehler nicht wiederholt. Wenn man einen guten Service bietet, gerät die Athletin oft in Gefahr, den Trainer bis auf die Knochen auszunutzen. Diese Chance besteht bei mir heute erst gar nicht mehr. Die "Kapitänin auf dem Schiff" bin ich.
Athleten wechseln oft, ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken, selbst wenn sie wissen, dass einige Trainer substantiell davon abhängig sind. Diese Abhängigkeiten bestehen bei mir zum Glück nicht. Die "Brötchen" habe ich immer am Gymnasium verdient. Es ist klar, dass solche Trainerinnen nicht so leicht wie hauptberufliche "auf Team getrimmt" werden können. Genauso schiebe ich heute knallhart einen Riegel vor, wenn Leute mein Wissen nur abschöpfen und mich ausnutzen wollen. Ich selektiere heute sehr gezielt in meinen Koorperationen.
