Nick Davies, der IAAF Pressesprecher, macht diese Woche Überstunden und schiebt gleich noch eine Presseerklärung hinterher, in der der ehemalige Vorsitzende der medizinischen Kommission der IAAF (und des IOC), Prof. Arne Ljungquist, die IAAF als Vorreiter im Anti-Doping-Kampf lobt.
Die IAAF klopft sich auch selber nochmal kräftig auf die Schulter und stellt fest:
- wir sind nicht perfekt, aber wir haben das robusteste Anti-Doping-System aller Sportarten
- wir bestrafen auch Top-Athleten (bspw. Marion Jones), selbst wenn es dem Ansehen und den finanziellen Interessen unserer Sportart schadet
- wir arbeiten gemäß dem WADA Code, haben die Unterstützung der WADA und kooperieren mit ihr
- wir würden gerne mehr tun, um saubere Athleten zu schützen und Betrüger zu erwischen und tuen zur Zeit alles, was unsere Ressourcen erlauben
- wir haben erfolgreich Vierjahressperren gefordert
- die (gemäß Ashenden/Parisotto unzutreffende) Kritik, die Blutprofile seien aus dem Kontext gerissen und interpretiert worden, wird wiederholt
- wir waren einer der ersten Verbände, der den biologischen Pass genutzt hat und wir nutzen ihn in größerem Umfang als irgendein anderer Sport
