Symmonds stört sich hauptsächlich an der "wischi waschi" Formulierung in dem Dokument, das er unterschreiben muss.

Bei dem letzten Begriff entsteht das Problem, denn das gewährt USATF einen sehr breiten Handlungsspielraum in dem sie bestimmen können, wann der Athlete NIKE zu tragen hat.
In einem Brief an Symmonds wird dann ausgeführt, dass sich der letzte Punkt bspw. auf das Athletenhotel oder das Training beziehen kann. Weiterhin enthält dieser Brief die oben erwähnte Aufforderung "nur NIKE oder no name Klamotten einzupacken", "nur" groß geschrieben und unterstrichen.
