Wahrscheinlich dürfte es einige Beobachter der U18-EM überraschen, dass die in Jerusalem die mit Abstand erfolgreichste für den DLV war:
- 2022 Jerusalem: 14 Medaillen (4 Gold, 7 Silber, 3 Bronze)
- 2018 Györ: 7 Medaillen (4, 2, 1)
- 2016 Tiflis: 10 Medaillen (4, 4, 2)
Und das ist noch nicht einmal die ganze Wahrheit:
- Etliche Medaillenkandidaten sind unter ihren Möglichkeiten geblieben sind (Samanski, Lange, Wepiwé, Marrwitz, Frühn, Dethloff, Müller, Plitzko, Wolzenburg) oder waren gar nicht vor Ort (Gelitz, Echterhoff). Das kann man auch positiv sehen, denn offensichtlich steckt sogar noch mehr Potential in der Mannschaft, als es die schon gute Medaillenbilanz beweist.
- Okoku, Kadiri, Kallabis, Becker, Budde und Wallstein hätten auch in anderen Disziplinen Medaillen holen können, konnten aber nur einmal antreten.
- Die Staffeln hat man gar nicht bestritten.
- Und noch dazu gibt es einige so vielversprechende Talente, dass wir uns mit Sicherheit später im Erwachsenenbereich auch auf größeren Bühnen auf ein Wiedersehen freuen dürfen.
