Ich bin ja ein großer Mehrkampf-Fan und habe inzwischen schon mal ein (etwas verfrühtes) Saison-Resumee gezogen.
Wer mich im deutschen Mehrkampf, trotz der Aufgabe bei der WM, überrascht hat, ist definitiv Mathias Brugger. Wenn ich mir seine Karriere so angucke: im Juniorenbereich scheint er ja ein vielversprechendes Talent gewesen zu sein, Vize-Europameister der U20 (hinter Kevin Mayer) 2011, 2012 EM-Teilnahme bei den Aktiven.
Danach schien er über Jahre hinweg zu stagnieren oder sich nur noch geringfügig zu verbessern. Das erste Mal wieder aufgefallen ist er eigentlich erst durch seine Bronzemedaille bei der Hallen-WM 2016. Dieses Jahr hat er im Freien eine tolle Steigerung hingelegt.
Insgesamt kann man festhalten, dass einer, der in der Versenkung zu versinken drohte, den Sprung an die deutsche Spitze geschafft hat.
Eine ähnliche Entwicklung konnte man vor einigen Jahren bei Carolin Schäfer auch beobachten. Nach erfolgreichen Jugendjahren schien da nichts mehr zu kommen, bis sie 2014 in Götzis den Durchbruch schaffte - der Rest ist Geschichte.
Diese Entwicklung scheint es nicht nur in Deutschland zu geben: Schäfers Konkurrentin aus Jugendjahren, die Tschechin Katerina Cachova (2007 U18-Weltmeisterin vor Schäfer, 2009 U20-Vizeeuropameisterin hinter Schäfer) verschwand nach 2011 ebenfalls von der Bildfläche und mischt jetzt wieder bei internationalen Höhepunkten mit.
Hat jemand von euch eine Erklärung für einen derartigen Karriereverlauf, der ja so selten nicht zu sein scheint, oder kennt ähnliche Beispiele?
