Ich glaube nicht, dass Franke noch einmal in die Nähe seiner Bestzeit gekommen ist. Übrigens ist es ziemlich sonderbar, dass seine Homepage weiter existiert, wohl ohne Hinweis auf seinen Tod...

Ich ziehe meine leise Kritik an Richard Ringer zurück und verneige mich voller Ehrfurcht vor ihm...
Irgendwie erschreckt es mich aber, dass so eine, für mich immer noch absolute Spitzenzeit, trotzdem 'nur' noch zu Platz 10 in einem solchen Rennen reicht... Was die WM-Normen angeht: in der Vergangenheit hat sich der DLV erfreulich biegsam gezeigt, was seine eigenen Vorgaben angeht. Auch im Hinblick auf Rio und die geringe Zahl der Norm-Erfüller kann ich mir gut vorstellen, dass z.b. Orth für Peking nominiert wird, zumal er die Zeit aus dem Vorjahr hat und er eigentlich zum Saisonende immer besser wird. Bei Kock sehe ich das ein bisschen anders, ihr fehlt noch ein ganzes Stück zur Norm - und was ist mit Martin Grau? Lena Urbaniak? Als Studentenweltmeister hätten sie es eigentlich auch verdient, mitzufahren.. Alexander John, um eine Hunderstel an der Norm vorbei bisher... Daniel Jasinski..

Mir sind Athleten lieber, die mehrmals ganz knapp an der DLV-Norm scheitern (aber die offizielle haben) als solche, die gerade mal die Norm - meist beim wichtigen Wettbewerb - schaffen und wenns darauf ankommt weit hinter der Leistung zurückbleiben.
Wenn man sich bei den Athleten in Cali umsieht haben wir da ein paar, die ihre Leistung in Schweinfurt erreicht habrn, aber weder vorher noch nachher auch nur in die Nähe kamen. Andere die mehrmals eine knapp schlechtere Leistung gebracht haben, mussten zu Hause bleiben.

Er ist sicherlich kein Medaillenkandidat für Peking, aber ich könnte mir schon vorstellen, dass er sich in einem eher langsamen Rennen gut verkaufen kann. Viel beeindruckender aus einer historischen Perspektive finde ich: Ringer ist jetzt schneller als Werner Schildhauer (5000m WM-Zweiter) und Thomas Wessinghage (5000m-Europameister) und nur knapp langsamer als Hansjörg Kunze (5000m Olympia-Dritter).

Wobei Wessinghage Mittelstreckler war und die 5.000 nie ernsthaft gelaufen ist.
Schon krass der Leistungssprung von heute auf morgen. Nochmal und Baumanns DR ist fällig.^^

Seine unterdistanzleistung auf 1500 ist doch für einen 13:10 läufer ziemlich langsam (3:44). andererseits kann es natürlich sein, dass er schneller geworden ist. die 3:40+ passen ja zeitlich recht gut zu seinen vorherigen 13:30, eventuell hat er ja jetzt auch einen 3:36 oder so drin, die eher zu den 13:10 passen würden.

Das kommt wohl auf die Konkurrenz und das Rennen an. In Heusden ist er auf den letzten 100 Metern noch eingegangen und von Platz drei oder vier auf Rang zehn zurückgefallen. Aber da war er ja vermutlich auch an seiner absoluten Leistungsgrenze. In langsameren rennen hat er im Endspurt auch gegen gute Konkurrenz schon recht ordentlich ausgesehen.
